Eating at the Colonial Restaurant in 1938, Trenton, New Jersey

As I was browsing the Duke University Digital Libraries site, which I do often, my eye was caught by this image, and more I thought about it, the more a meal and a cup of coffee at the Colonial Restaurant in 1938 in New Jersey sounded good.

It's right by the railroad tracks, and in my imagination we've been walking for quite a while, so let's stop in. The sign says, "A cup of coffee to you but a reputation to us". Sounds like they're pretty confident of their coffee! And I'm hungry for a good home-cooked meal. Do you have a quarter?

I see that they have tables for ladies. We're men, so we really have no idea what that means. I would like to think that ladies could eat here!

When we're finished eating, we can go over to the Student Clothes Exchange. I could use a new hat, or some overalls. Is that a Pontiac? Too bad about the dent in the fender! Do you need any suitcases? How about some boots?

Thank you for visiting Trenton, New Jersey in 1938 with me. What did you think of the coffee?
