Driving west on Wilshire Boulevard in 1950, Los Angeles, California

Let's time-travel to 1950, and go to Los Angeles, California, specifically Wilshire Boulevard. I'll drive if you take the photos. We're headed west towards the Gaylord.

Specifically, we're heading towards Berendo Street, which is where the church is (and still is in the 21st Century). The Gaylord is still there, too, and it's an apartment building nowadays.

See if you can get a closeup of the woodie over there at the gas station. If you know the make and model, tell me and I'll update the post. I wonder what it says on the spare tire?

Here's a closeup of the church, and the building across the street from it (both of which are still there in the 21st Century).

And here's the reason that the photo was taken in the first place: catsup. Shouldn't that be ketchup? Well, I suppose the advertiser knew best. And Hunts wanted to know that the billboard was visible, which it was. A lot of people drove by on Wilshire Boulevard, and still do, so this space was valuable, and expensive!

Deliciously yours!
