Having some pecan pie at the Waldo Hotel in old-time Columbus, Ohio
This image, which I found on the Duke University site ROAD (Resource of Outdoor Advertising Descriptions) is exactly the kind of picture that invites me into it. Let's go time-traveling!
Where were we? Oh yeah, eating pecan pie. Delicious! Hey, look at that billboard over there for whiskey. I wonder if that brand is any good? Do you suppose that's what two dogs look to you like after you've had a few?
And how about that car with the writing on it? I wonder what that's about? Glick's 19% bonus is coming to you! Follow the crowds, 65 E. Long St.
Anyway, let's look at the cars, every one of them a classic. They sure all look like 1930s cars to me, but I'm no expert. If you recognize make and models, let me know and I'll update this post.
Thank you for visiting old-time Columbus with me! And how about that pecan pie? With dark chocolate on top! Yessir!

There isn't an exact date on this photo, but I'm gonna say early 1940s, although it could be late 1930s. The cars all look 1930s to me, but if you see one from 1940 or '41, let me know. Anyway, let's go the lunch counter at the Waldo Hotel and have a slice of pecan pie. It's on me! I have 21st Century money and it can't be more than a dime, and maybe a nickel for a cup of coffee.
I myself have never been to Columbus, but my number one history adventuring detective (who prefers to remain anonymous and who was the one who precisely identified this location), has, and he mention that he the best pecan pie he'd ever had was in Columbus, with dark chocolate spread over the top. Sounds good!
I'm driving, and I see a spot right in front of the Waldo. The sign says one hour parking, so we should go eat the pecan pie, stay there for only 59 minutes, and leave. You know, be desperados!
By the way, for those of you who are in Columbus right now, this area looks completely different, but if you look carefully at the buildings just north of Vine, you'll see they're still there, and there's even a "ghost sign" for Carlile's!
