Living with people who are taking horse dewormer for COVID-19

It's September of 2021, and I've been watching people's reaction to the COVID-19 virus, which is an amazing piece of history to live through. And even though I've lived a long life, I gotta tell ya, I've seen nothing like it. So, if you're a young person wondering if thing kind of thing is normal, no it's not. It's just weird. This is indeed history.

In my lifetime I've seen a lot of weird behavior. And of course it's a matter of point of view. My favorite joke about a psychology class is: "People do strange stuff, no one really knows why, test on Thursday."

To be fair, I've spent my entire adult life in California and Arizona, and there are a LOT of people who could fairly be described as "independent thinkers". I've lived among these people, some of whom have had different religions than me, some of whom eat things like sushi (can you imagine?), and some who are now taking a horse dewormer medicine to combat COVID-19.

Yes, of course I got the vaccine for COVID-19. I also eat my veggies, drink plenty of water, get regular exercise, see my dentist a couple of times a year, and get checkups from my doctor, who prescribes medication to keep my cholesterol and high blood pressure under control. I also eat almonds, by the way.

I don't know anyone personally who is taking horse dewormer, but I know a lot of people who are determined not to take the vaccine, or wear a mask. I have found these to be well-meaning people, and in looking for some kind of pattern, I find that it's mostly people who distrust authority. There are a lot of people my age who grew up with the words "Question Authority", and I agree with that.

I've always questioned authority, and oftentimes people in authority have been correct. I dislike the idea of following blindly, but just because someone is in a position of authority doesn't mean that I automatically reject their advice. I like my doctor, she knows stuff that I'll never know, and she's my authority for my medical health. My golf pro is my authority for my swing (gotta remember not to grip too tightly with the right hand!).

By the way, my generation also said, "Don't trust anyone over 30", but that's been a hard one for me to stick to over the years.

These are interesting times, and as they say, living through interesting times is a curse. I'll let you know how the story unfolds, and becomes history.
