Driving through New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1941

It's 1941, and in this journey of the imagination, we're driving through New Brunswick, New Jersey. Well, that was the plan, but the old car just broke down, and we've been pushing it now for a few miles. Look! A garage!

This image, by the way, is from the Duke University site ROAD (Resource of Outdoor Advertising Descriptions) because they're interested in historic advertising. But I'm interested in time-traveling, so come on, push, we're almost there!

The exact address of the Raritan River Garage, which was given to me by my top history adventurer (who prefers to remain nameless), was 107 How Lane, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Conveniently located for people like us, who need repairs!

Here we are! I see that it says "24 hour service", and I can also see an "Open" sign in the window. I'm going to jump in and steer, while you keep pushing OK? I don't see anyone around, so I'll honk the horn.

Still no one. I suppose they're out somewhere. Here, I'll just write a note and leave the car here. The keys in the ignition? Of course I'm leaving the keys in the ignition, this is 1941!

Let's see if we can thumb into town, maybe find a place to eat, I'm starving! How much money do you have? A quarter? That should be enough, let's go.
