Being attractive to lonely women in the old west

I've been watching some old Westerns on YouTube lately, most of which I hadn't seen since I was a kid, and now that I'm older I'm seeing things that I missed back then, or that made no sense to me.

The movie that I'm watching right now (don't tell me how it ends because I haven't finished it yet!) is from 1971 and is called "Something Big". As near as I can tell, movies like this are kinda throw-away, which is why you can watch them for free on YouTube. So really don't expect much, unless you're like me, and it jogs pleasant memories of watching Westerns as a kid.

It's a light-hearted story, which I'm liking, and even though it was made in 1971, it seems to have a lot of the feeling of the '60s, with what my mom used to call "suggestive humor". That is, you have to understand things to get the jokes, like "He didn't even take his boots off!" Of course, as a kid, suggestive humor just went past me, and now I understand. And what really caught my eye is being attractive to lonely women in the Old West.

In the scene in the pic at the top of this post, the hero (played by Dean Martin) visited two lonely women out in the middle of nowhere. And you can tell that they really like him. I mean, really like him (if you know what I mean - and if you're not a kid, you do).

Like I say, there's nothing overly obscene about what any of these characters say or do - he follows them into the cabin asking if they have any food. They walk past a grave, and one of the women is clearly a widow, and she says to the hero, "I have an itch you need to scratch!" See what I mean about suggestive? As a kid I'd just imagine her getting a scratch on her back, nothing more.

The look in the eyes of these women is a look that I'm sure Dean Martin got a lot of. But in this movie he's not Dean Martin, not rich and famous, he's just a man that women find attractive. And that's what I'm pondering right now.

There were, and are, no lack of men in the West. But most of them were, and are, very unattractive to women, no matter how much the women needed an itch scratched. I've seen a lot of my fellow men fail to understand the most basic needs of women, and it's always made me feel kinda sorry for the girls. Most men are clueless, and just think that all women want is their money. But when you look into the eyes of these women, you can tell that there's so much more.
